As a growing company with a rapidly expanding team, it comes as no surprise that we’ve had A LOT of ‘Meet the Team’ specials to write about in 2021. This week we’re shining the spotlight on our last (but by no means least) subject of the year: Nemanja. Nemanja started working with us back in June as an SEM Marketing Manager and moved to Berlin to join our team onsite a couple of months ago to focus on performance marketing. In our quick-fire Q&A he shares his first experiences of living and working in Germany’s capital.
Hi Nemanja!
Welcome to the team and to Berlin! Tell us about your journey so far.
Moin! I’m originally from a small spa town in central Serbia called Vrnjačka banja, but have lived in Belgrade for the last 17 years. I’d visited Berlin a few times before and with each visit it grew on me. It felt similar to Belgrade (somewhat resembling the history), but was bigger, cleaner, and more interesting.
The first thing that I noticed about Berlin after I had moved here, was how big it is. When I had visited before everything had always seemed to confined and easy to get to, but now it all seems so far away! There’s a lot to explore and, while I do spend more time in traffic than I thought I would, I love it—even the cold and windy weather (which reminds me of home).
Is there any cultural or social experience you long to do in Berlin but haven’t managed to achieve yet?
Berghain. I know it’s a cliché, but all joking aside it’s one of Berlin’s most famous clubs and is definitely on my list. Aside from that there are lots of museums I still haven’t been to, and I’d like to get back into running so I can see more of the city on foot.
How are you settling into the new office environment? What’s been your best experience so far?
Definitely the people. I’ve been going into the office quite regularly so have been able to meet a lot of interesting new colleagues face to face.
A big part of your role in performance marketing is SEM. For those who don't know, tell us a little about what this means.
SEM is an acronym for Search Engine Marketing. In my case it is specifically tied to Google Ads (both Google itself and YouTube). Basically, I am planning, implementing, and managing campaigns for our products across Google channels. For example I manage ads shown to customers that type specific keywords, which we are bidding on, and I create the ad banners shown to customers across 3rd party websites depending on their browsing and search habits.
And what do you find is the biggest challenge in an SEM channel?
It’s all about beating the competition and finding the sweet spots that allow you to grow and perform better.
When you’re not busy with all of your many marketing campaigns, what do you like to do?
I like to use my free time to listen to music and podcasts, watch tv shows, browse Reddit, read comics, and take a big break from politics.
Who has had a big impact on your life or been a great influence?
Every person in my life has influenced me in some capacity, whether temporarily or permanently. But I’d say the biggest influences in my life have been my parents—luckily in a good way.
And finally, which superpower would you love to have and why?
Too many good ones to choose from! Perhaps some kind of mind reading or precognition.
Thanks Nemanja! We’re looking forward to seeing what great performance marketing tricks you’ve got up your sleeve as we continue to work and grow together in 2022.
