Meet the team: Julia

We recently caught up with Julia, one of our wonderful Graphic Designers, to learn more about her creative adventures both at work and abroad.

Hi Julia!

Where are you from originally and what brought you to Berlin?

Hey! I moved to Berlin to study my Master’s Degree in Visual and Experience Design, but I’m originally from Brazil. I’d lived abroad a few times before, but I wanted a new adventure and Berlin seemed like the perfect place for me.

What led you to a career in design?

That story is quite random. I liked to draw when I was a kid but had no interest in art or design before college. I went to study my Bachelor’s Degree in the U.S. and, as you have to take a variety of classes no matter what your major, I decided to take a drawing class. I loved that class and kept trying to figure out if there was a way I could do it for a living. After my first year I transferred to an art school and studied illustration.

When you’re not supporting our Design Team here at 360 DS, what are you doing?

Up until recently I was in school and working in the Design Team only part time. It was pretty hard to balance my studies with work and it didn’t leave me with much free time to do anything else. Luckily this has changed and now that I’ve finished with school, I can use that time to draw and pursue personal projects, as well as catch up with friends.

Any exciting personal design projects on the horizon?

I just painted a huge mural for a university in Belgium! It was 210 square meters and extremely stressful haha! Check it out below!

What’s the thing that gets you out of bed in the morning?

Breakfast!

What’s something you unexpectedly learned on the job?

The importance of good communication.

What would you advise other people seeking a role in Design? What skills do you think are particularly important?

I think the most important thing is practice. Just like a professional athlete you need to practice every single day.

Who is your design hero?

I have an illustration hero and his name is Christoph Niemann. I love how he focuses on the concept of his illustrations and not on the style!

And finally, looking back at your first few months at 360 DS, what has been your best experience so far?

For sure the people! The team is so nice, understanding, and energetic. It is lovely to share my day with everyone.

Thanks Julia! We’re looking forward to seeing even more of your brilliant creations both at work and around the city!
